Hi Everyone,

First I'd like to thank everyone who responded to my question about septic systems. I got a lot of info. I have a new question for the forum. We currently live in Alexandria, VA and our city property tax includes fees for schools, roads, police and fire, trash pickup, etc. I hear that in Florida cities, especially the smaller ones, the property taxes are not all-inclusive. My questions are: do you pay city property tax as well as county? What other fees can we expect to pay if we live in a city? School fees, fire fees, city income tax? We are trying to make a monthly budget and would appreciate any info on what types of taxes and fees we will face. As always, thanks in advance for all responses!

Everywhere I've lived in SE FL the taxes have included everything. Generally there are parts for every service you receive including special assessments. Watch the communities you buy in because they all have different assessments on the non-ad valorem portion of the taxes. Some of them can be double or more others so it can make a difference.

In Sebastian, about the only extra fee is trash collection. It's not mandatory though. If you feel like dropping your trash off at the collection center it's free. You pay Waste Management quarterly. It's 33.00 (11.00 a month)currently for twice a week collection. When the current contract in over, it will be cheaper since they're going to once a week which they've already done in the unincorporated parts of the county. Recycling is included in your taxes, and they just delivered the large rolling bins for single stream. No more separating different types of materials. Yard waste is collected weekly and is also included in taxes.

I loved PSL's "Titanic law" (not sure of the connection) because no matter what I throw to the curb they take it. You can put a couch and a bed along with a refrigerator and they will take it. Not sure about a car or truck LOL. I think the fee for that is totally worth it.

Hi Everyone, Thanks for the info. Here in Alexandria VA we have to pay for removal of anything bigger than your trash can. I'm glad to see that the cities down there aren't "nickle and diming" their citizens.
