I have heard so-so things about Ft.Pierce. Centex homes has a brand new community that is located appx 1 mile WEST of the Turnpike at Orange avenue in what is considered to be FT.Pierce. It is way west of the real ft.pierce. Is this area decent and is there anything around ? The prices are very cheap (196K for a 3/2 2-story home)

Can someone please explain to me when exactly did 196,000 for a home become "cheap".???

I think the poster must have never been a former bubble home owner.

I saw those houses last weekend and liked them, especially the prices. I know Ft Piece is questionable. But reading on the forum, it looks like they are putting in money into the downtown to revitalize it and hopefully turn around it's reputation. I read that the downtown is becoming more lively with restaurants and new concert venue is coming in. Also I read the beaches are very nice. I just plan on going back again and looking around the area more thoroughly. I am just anxious to get out of Broward County.

I wouldn't suggest Ft. Pierce unless you are going to be on the beach and do not have children. The schools are terrible with only one exception (Lincoln Park Academy). Just my opinion but I know the area quite well and wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

The beach front area "downtown" is nice in Fort Pierce. Northern Ft. Pierce is nice, I think it's as "country" as you're going to get. I've seen that new development. The development it self is nice, but the area around it is questionable. Like the OP said, if you have young kids I'd avoid as the schools are not good. The magnet schools are great, but there is a HUGE waitlist.
