It can. Maybe more so in North Florida. Make sure it's actually ginseng before you pick it.

It grows wild here in the mountains of NC -- BUT it is against the law to harvest it. Big time no no, maybe even jail time. Best to check with the Agriculture Dept. enforcement folks.

why is it against the law? I've read about a guy who grows it in NC and makes like $250,000 - 1 million per year selling it to China

Probably way too hot here to grow and wrong soil. That is home grown vs wild.

This link should explain the differences between growing Ginseng as a business, or harvesting wild ginseng privately in NC. A search in the agriculture department(s) in FL would most likely bring up similar information -- if it grows there.
