Any and all information would be most appreciated. What's the feel? Is there nature nearby? Crime? The car aspect is very important. Whatever info you have would be great! Thanks! -- John

Small town feel. Very little crime. Nature everywhere. Beautiful beaches nearby. Certainly possible to live without a car, but inconvenient. I know several people without cars. They walk, use bikes, Go Line (bus) https://golineirt.com/ and Uber.

Oh, and is there a downtown area, even if that just means two restaurants and a post office?

Thanks! But do those people have jobs outside of the home, or are they retired? That's a key difference when it comes to needing a car.

There's not a well defined downtown, rather "clusters" of commercial activity. There's a large area along route 1 that has just about any kind of store or restaurant you could need. Indian River dr. runs parallel to route 1 and has waterfront restaurants and bars. Sebastian Blvd bisects Rt. 1 and runs from the lagoon westward to rt. 95. It has supermarkets, medical offices, vets, restaurants and the library. Main St. also bisects Rt. 1 and runs from the water to Sebastian Blvd. It has the Police station, City hall, Post office, and Senior center. Vero Beach, which is about 10 miles south, has two well defined downtowns. One on the mainland, and one on the barrier island.

Equal mix workers and retirees.

I think it would be hard to get along without a car. Everything is spread out.

Go Line runs to most places in the county. After 7 PM though, it's Uber time.

But it is more difficult than jumping in your car when you have to keep changing buses to get from place to place.

Is there a bus to Sebastian Inlet or to Golden Sands etc.? Will it get you to the restaurants or pubs in Melbourne and I think the OP said he is not retirement age so may want more to do. And just maybe you may need a car for dating. Uber is not cheap so anything later than 7 you need a way home.

OP are you looking for condo, apartment or home to live in? There are some apartments/condos in Viera that are close to the Avenues that are nice. The Avenues is an outdoor mall. Their are shops, restaurants, and movies all pretty close. Also a little farther but not mlles and miles is a target and Walmart.
Lots of working people there and there is even a huge Publix, close by.

Yes go line goes to the beaches. Nothing in Sebastian is more than a few miles. I think you're getting the wrong idea from my descriptions. Go Line is an IRC thing, they go to the establishments in Sebastian, Vero Beach , and Fellsmere. There are many restaurants, pubs, and 5 craft breweries. You have everything from the ridiculous to the sublime right in the area.
