Just found this forum tonight after spending 35 hours on the internet looking at houses all weekend. My husband and I are flying in 2 weeks to check out Port St Lucie . There are several (14 to be exact) homes I would like to see while in town. Any locals have suggestions of Realtors to contact to line these up. All but 2 of the homes are different agents and I wanted to know if anyone could help, instead of pulling a name out of a hat. Any help would be appreciated so I can start making plans for the trip. Thanks

You are kidding me right? You are going to fly in trust a realtor and buy a house in an area you know nothing about?

tnally, my husband and I did the exact same thing 2 years ago...we were literally in town for 1 day to look at houses. We did a whirlwind tour and looked at like 10 houses (looked at two of them twice) and made an offer before heading home. Though we are going to move and leave FL, we have had no problems with the house or anything...I don't really think it has much to do with trusting a realtor as being smart, being thorough, and having any home inspected.

When we bought, our agent was Terry Gash...we loved her! I am afraid if I put in websites, they will be removed, so if you do a search, I think it's Realty Executives, and John Gash will be the name that comes up. Super nice lady, alot of fun, and gave us a good sampling to chose from in our price range. Now, we are selling and we are going with Dr. Sold from Remax and like them alot too. They are always nice, they keep us posted about things like sales in the area, other people lowering their prices, and when we have a showing, they get back to us with feedback. Again, just a search for Remax Dr. Sold in Port Saint Lucie should do it.

Good luck, I hope you find what you are looking for while you're here

If it helps I have info that you may like to hear, I know 5 people that have moved to PSL in the past two years they love it. As far as a realtor just be careful and get an inspection for sure. Good luck!

NOT BUYING A HOUSE! Thanks for the helpful info Turtle and momix5. This will just be one of several trips to see if we are relocating from Knoxville Tennessee with my husbands job. Just wanted to see the area and look at some houses to get an idea! Although I am kinda scared that I will be hated because I am relocating there and not a native! Maybe I won't move next door to Riverviewnative if we do relocate.

Port St. Lucie is a new town, nobody lived there in the 1950s, so basically everyone over about 30 or so is a "non-native!" The whole place has been "colonized" by the NE tri-state area of NY, NJ, PA basically, lol.

My brother is 16 and I'd guess HE'D be considered a native.... but fortunately he didn't inherit the acerbic brand of "Southern Hospitality" that Riverview natives were apparently taught as youngsters!!

Not sure about realtors. But check out the area around (the new) city center. LOTS of new homes at reasonable prices. Go to Lennard road and Tiffany area. Great pedestrian friendly areas and east of us 1. If you buy west of hwy 1, you'll sit in traffice alot.

Hi tnally
If the move will be due to a relo for your husbands job, you might want to check with his company to see if there is a relo package. If so you may have a "relo specialist" assigned to help. They are people who's job it is to know the area.
When we were looking inot a possible transfer to Atlanta one of the parts of the relo package was working with their folks.

just a tip
good luck with the possible move

karla
a Florida resident that LOVES living here

Agreed. The area east of US 1 is undervalued now compared to what it will be after City Center is complete. However, beware, there are many houses built in that area which represent the original developer (GDC) at its worst. They are stucco over wood frame, which is not generally a happy combination. Try to find houses by independent builders.

Also, a tiny clarification -- I would say it's the St. Lucie River that's the hangup for traffic, right now, not US 1. You will be happy anywhere east of the river if your destination is east of the river, and you'll be OK west of the river as long as you don't have to cross the river to your destination. You will also experience traffic delays in St. Lucie West, but there are alternate ways around that.

Many of the existing problems will be solved when the new Crosstown Parkway is complete, which not so coincidentally will end at the City Center development at the East end of the parkway. Portions of the parkway are under construction right now, but a new river crossing is still several years away.

I probably could help with Realtors, at least helping to avoid some of the ones that might be less helpful, but I'm kinda reluctant to do so on city-data -- it's really against the rules. Just try to get one of the older companies in town, and try to get a more experienced agent. Finally, trust but verify. Do not take the word of any agent about anything relative to the city without researching and verifying later, if it's important to you. Famous lines have included, "...that will always be a park", "...there will never be any commercial development here", etc.

The most important advice I can give you is that if a street has a wider right of way that nearby streets (more space in the front yards before the pavement starts), that probably indicates the road will someday be widened to a major collector street.

This is what we're getting, and it's really making things much easier.
