My family is considering a move to Florida. We are looking at Port St. Lucie ( great home prices) or Martin Co., Jensen Beach area. I have one child that will be going into the 4th grade, any suggestions on schools? Which of these areas are the best for family life?

Everyone wants to move here becuase of the low home prices; but our job market is not looking so good. Get a job lined up before you call the movers.

The general consensus is that Martin County has really good schools. PSL schools are OK, but not regarded as highly due to test scores (though as a graduate of the SLC school system, I know for a fact that my education was just as good as that received by my Martin County friends).

Martin County and Port St. Lucie are about the same for "family life" otherwise, as well as amenities. The area sort of "bleeds" into one another, though PSL is regarded as an OVERALL working middle class area, while Martin County has more money overall. There are some GREAT areas in PSL, however (including very very expensive areas), and you may want to look into the Tradition development in Western PSL.

I would agree, however, that the economic situation is still in flux (coming from North Carolina you may know, since NC is actually even worse off than Florida, unemployment wise), so come with a job in hand, or at least prospects or several months of living expenses!

FL and NC are completely different, with positives and detractions to both.
