What do you like about Vero? Have you met many other families? Is there a lot to do there?

My husband, two toddlers and I are planning on relocating from CT and I'd love to hear from families who live there..

I've heard Vero is a retirement town, but then I've heard it's not. (I'm a little confused!)

Let me put it this way... I'm retired, age 59 and Vero Beach, lovely as it is, is too old for me!

It's not easy trying to decide on an area! it would be much easier and less stressful if I were getting transferred, but I work from home.

I've been here for 20+years...moved here when our daughter was 4y.o. It has been a great place for our family to live and to raise our daughter. We met many young couples during our time here and have become close friends with several of them. My daughter has moved on and doesnt really see herself coming back to Vero because it's just too small for her. It is definately not all old folks but it is a small town with limited entertainment possibilities. Great beaches and environment. Theatre is nice, good restaurants, decent schools. Overall, a pretty wealthy town also. We dont regret having moved here at all. YMMV

After having worked there for a time and lived in Port St. Lucie, I decided I would NOT move to Vero because it is too retired. Not enough to do at any time. I decided to drive back and forth instead.

PSL is more families, more to do, younger in age group. Both places have their waterfront high end people (also mostly retired) and I guess Vero has more since they have more high end areas ONLY along the water.

That doesn't make for family living for most people.

Vero Beach--- small town living with some cool houses. Has a couple shopping centers. Not far to the Disney Resort on the Beach.
Beachside has some really beautiful expensive gated areas to live in .

VB high school is pretty good school and has in the past had a great marching band. Lots of parent involvement even at the HS level. Whole town comes out for ball games and band competitions even if they don't have kids.

Pretty safe area to raise kids with some pretty nice beaches. Close enough to get to Orlando area for theme parks, Melbourne area for more stores and restaurants etc. Florida is a state where things are spread out and you can always do day trips.

Perhaps FLA lady you dont sell in Vero and thats why you have nothing but praise for PSL and not much praise concerning Vero for families?

I always thought it was because I live in an over 55 community!

All jokes aside, I'd rather raise a family in a quiet community with pristine beaches, clean parks, and polite people than a large, dirty city with a lot of crime and gangs.

Actually I can sell in Vero Beach. I worked in Vero for a long time and have people I know that live there. I personally chose not to move to Vero (even though it meant driving a longer distance to work) because even the people I knew said it was "dead", mostly retired people and nothing to do. Working there just confirmed that my choice not to live there too was the right one.

I don't see it as a place for families to be with plenty of other families.

Personal opinion

I hope you don't mind if I suggest something. I find it helpful to contact a local church or synagogue to ask about local activities. Of course this depends upon your personal beliefs, but speaking to women at a sisterhood might give you a better feel for the area. Just a thought.
