We are considering a trip this summer or maybe fall to visit friends in Cocoa Beach and Vero Beach. Would probably stay a couple of days in each place. Wondering about other places to go while we are in Florida.

Is there a nice resort that would be somewhere near either place, or between them or even somewhere north of Cocoa Beach in the travel route that would be a nice place to stay? We are middle-aged and no kids coming with us. Other than visiting with friends in these two places, can anyone recommend a nice place to stay? Probably oceanside somewhere with nice pool, hot tub, that isn't too ritzy? Don't want to have to dress up every evening for dinner, but just nice casual.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Check out the Double Tree in Melbourne on the beach. My nephew and his family got it really cheap last year with Hotwire and they loved it and are going to stay there instead of closser to disney this year for their whole vacation. It would put you about half way between Vero and Cocoa Beach.

Things to do in the area Sebastian Inlet State Park, The Space Center, lots of places to eat out, shopping, nature trails, air boat rides, river cruises and short drive to do anything in Orlando or Daytona. St. Augustine for a day is doable easily, too. There's even a minor league baseball park that has fireworks a lot of the nights. You should be able to find lots to do around here.

Trust me - in Florida, especially in the summer, you won't have to dress up for dinner anywhere. I'm in my late 50s and from Boston, so just from my upbringing, I still can't go out to eat in shorts (although many people do) but there are very few restaurants where you will feel out of place in a lightweight cotton dress or a casual pair of pants. Don't even think about packing pantyhose!

I wear shorts, capris, cotton tops dont wear makeup or curl my hair... the places have never not taken my money

Vero has beautiful beaches, it's safe and the people are very friendly. All along A1A there are a lot of places to stay between Vero and Cocoa. All casual. I didn't care for the Holiday Inn too much. Last summer it was $99 plus tax with my AAA discount and the room was old & musty. I liked Mulligan's next door, however. Very good quesadilla selection (seafood, chicken, veggie) Many people might disagree, but in the summer I rarely make a reservation before I check out the accommodations. Vero is very quiet in the summer, however, which might not appeal to some people. Melbourne will be a little more lively.

we would stay in the Port Canaveral area when visiting. there is a Residence Inn and couple nice hotels in the area. Your not far from the port where all the cruise ships come/leave. A couple nice beachy restaurants. Grills restaurant is good and fun. they usually have steel drumb music.

Cpt Hiram's in Sebastian is a touristy area and they have hotel rooms. Its close to Vero. Also in
Vero you have the Disney Resort. We only ate there and had drinks.

Now that we live in Vero we get to explore all the neat little beachy restuarants.

hope this helps
