I have been going through all of the past posts regarding this subject and most seem to be related to houses for families, or are a little dated and unspecific.

I have worked in Portland for 4 summers, and my wife for 6. Now, we have also stayed in Maine during the winter for some amount of time and are aware of the extreme weather conditions, but we have yet to move there completely.

We are moving there full time in September this year and while we have some close friends who already live there, they are already at home-owner status.

If anyone has anyone examples of their utility costs and would not mind divulging them, I would really appreciate it.

We're currently looking at one and two bedroom apartments, and have a good idea of the rental prices. We're looking in Portland, S. Portland and Westbrook.

Thanks for any help with this!

As there are so many variables to what one unit may cost in utilities vs. another unit, it may be easier to ask your prospective landlords what the last tenant was averaging for a monthly utility bill(s), both in summer and winter.

Some units include heat in the monthly rent -- that is a nice option in case the cost of oil goes up (which it always does). Look for places with newer, energy-efficient windows, too.

Sorry I can't give you details -- we rent a 2600 sq ft house so our bills wouldn't help you much.
