I will be moving to Portland toward the end of November and I will be looking to find a job in the restaurant industry as a server or line cook. I know summer is busier but I would like to know if there is year round work for servers in Portland? Specifically down town? I’ve heard that Portland was voted America's Foodiest Small Town 2009 so I know there are many restaurants.

Thank you for any information you can give me.

How about minimum wage jobs? Does anyone know if minimum wage jobs are available all year round or warehouse jobs in Portland?

James there are year round jobs those of us who live here year round eat. Unfortunately your just missing the bussiest season...Fall the last cruise ship is end of October. However one option for you if you don't find a server job Nov is the beginning of Christmas season. Stores in the old port are busy during christmas and so is freeport, LL bean always hires for Christmas its only 15 minutes or so up 295. I'll give you the advice I gave my teenage daughter this past summer, after applying on Jobsinme.com and craigslist I told her to hit the pavement in the old port and go shop to shop. After complaints of "mom they do everything on line now". Mom's advice wasn't so bad, she found a job in one of the shops above min wage quickly. oh and just a thought I noticed it gets very busy for some reason in starbucks every christmas and there are 2 downtown and 2 out by the mall. Good Luck.
