Last summer was our first time going to Two Lights. The views are stunning. And even though it was August, there were few people there so it was even better!

I live 5-10 min from The Lobster Shack at Two Lights and while the views are spectacular, I really think the food is just so-so. Not special. It's still a fun spot to take the family once in a while, but you're paying (a lot) for the location.

As for the OP's question about restaurants on Commercial street, yes, there are a lot of good places to eat along that strip. The Dry Dock is a pub-type place with a deck out back that overlooks the bay. Great atmosphere and good food. Although if you come for the foliage in October, it won't be warm out there. Another spot on Commercial is the Portland Lobster Co which is great in the summer - warm weather, live music, and good food. It's expensive, though.

Actually, after living here and buying lobster from a local monger, I have a hard time spending $25-$30 for a 1.25lb lobster. It is an experience, though.

For an easy vacation....and less expensive perhaps than staying in Portland.....consider Old Orchard Beach.....its a family resort/boardwalk and pier type place....sandy beach....short drive to Pine Point (for lobster restaurants) and take a nice scenic drive along the coast down to Ocean Park and Ferry Beach....It depends what your looking for....OOBeach is a bit honky tonk but has beach bars and restaurants and souvenier shops. In October you will catch off season rates...and plenty of hotels. You also arent far from Kennebunkport....lots of seaside charm there. Have fun where ever you go.
