I am thinking of moving to Portland. I currently live in Portland, OR area. The reason I am looking into this is the school district I live in just laid off over 300 teachers and support persons. I am extremely worried about classroom size. My daughter will be starting first grade. Last year there were 27 kids in her afternoon Kindergarten class.

Portland Maine is a very small city city in comparison. I have read about all the schools on the official website but would like to know what are the average classroom size in the schools? Is there much difference between the school sizes? I noticed one school was on an island and had 5 kids. Not sure I would want to be in a school that small. :-)

Thanks for the information!

There are dozens of elementary schools in the greater Portland area. If you are thinking of just the city of Portland, you can check the Portland Schools Web Site here. If you are thinking about the surrounding towns, they have similar web sites.
