can anyone offer any advice. coming back to Maine after 25 years in pa. i am 60 , male, life time struggling artist. had a multitude of job experiences in my life. after being unemployed for 2 + years my wife cannot support me anymore and needs me gone. always loved Maine. lived on deer isle last time around. have to find work and i think i stand a much better chance in a city. Portland... i am going to need a very cheap place to live on a week to week basis. been searching craigslist for days. have found a lot of week to week housing but they are mostly rooms for rent in peoples homes or vacation type accommodations. none of them are cheap. checked out hotels / motels who claim they have weekly/ monthly rates. if you divide by 7 or 30
your still paying at least ( cheapest i found ) $ 50. a day. i would be broke in a matter of several weeks.
so, what i am asking is this. i need a truly cheap place/ motel as close to Portland as possible. anyone know any dive motels ??? and this is where you call me crazy, i am talking less than $ 150. a week. i do not expect anyone to even consider replying to this insane cry for help. if you do, don't beat me up to bad. thanks john

Here's a link to craig's list rooms for rent etc. Some of them say you must be employed. (imagine that) Looks like there are at least a few for less than $150 a week. maine rooms & shares classifieds "portland" - craigslist

There's motel out on 302 in Windham that rents by the week and/or by the month. I can't remember the name of it. Heading out of Portland it's on the left side of the road. It may be out of your price range because I think they charge $200 a week. I know some people who lived there one summer because they had a summer job in Portland.

Your best bet might be senior citizen subsidized housing where your rent is based on your income.
