I prefer Portsmouth. I'm not a big fan of cities.

The only reason I would choose Portsmouth is because it's closer to Boston.

I lived in Portland from 1967 until 1996...I loved the place. If Maine didn't have the winters, the summer bugs, and the humidity, I'd still be there instead of south Orange County where everything is burning down around me.

Portland isn't exactly a big city with a general population of 65K.

Well thats a question. I lived in Boston for ten years. Surely Portland doesn't have the same feel.

And how does income tax/house prices even out in either state in you guys opinion?
I'm wicked tired of the being a m*******. I'm an adoptive NEer (I love it here) since 4th grade, but I'm really hating my state the last several years.

Not at all, but the bride and I loved Boston. We had many great times in the best little big city in the world.

Too bad it isn't still like that. Boston has changed quite a bit in the last 5-10 years. Crime is outrageous, the people have for some reason become incredibly rude, it's all about me, me, me...what I can get, where I can go and how fast I can get there. Too bad, really......it really was one of the best little cities ...

As for my choice between Portsmouth or Portland, I'd have to agree with some of the others...Portsmouth isn't really a "city"...it's more of a tourist-town area, much quieter in the off-season, and not nearly the employment opportunities that Portland has. Portland also offers more in the "personal entertainment" arena with clubs, galleries, theatre's, and other cultural offerings ....something for everyone.

It's still a city though....I'll take the outskirts of a city anyday
