We're contemplating a move to Portland. We currently live in Baltimore (city). We are both professionals in marketing/communications fields. My husband is a full time consultant. I would need to find a full time job. Which is definitely of concern to me--finding something in Portland. We have no kids now. We enjoy good food, the outdoors, being near the water, staying active, our dogs, and being close to everything. Don't mind the cold all that much--that's what warm weather vacations are for, right? ;-)

We'd start off renting. Haven't though of a budget yet. We're coming up in a month to explore. We'd lean more towards a town home or single family, but would consider a larger condo in the right neighborhood. Any neighborhoods we should consider looking at while we're visiting? Restaurants? Other recommendations of things to do to get a feel for the city?

Thanks!

The profile of you and your husband sound like a perfect fit for the Portland area. There are many new condos going up on the peninsula.........you might consider the East End which is going through a "renewal" of sorts...........which of course means rising real estate prices. I would suggest looking North........Falmouth, Yarmouth, Freeport or slightly inland if you don't mind living outside the city (within 30 minutes). Enjoy your stay and good luck!

Thank you for your feedback. Much appreciated. Do you have an idea of what rent or real estate pricing is in the East End of the city, or other areas in the downtown area?

I had not thought of Falmouth, Yarmouth or Freeport. Will take a look. My father's side is originally from Maine, so I'm somewhat familiar with these areas, but just from visiting during summers.
