Hello all,

My boyfriend and I are looking to relocate to Portland, but are having a tough time trying to find somewhere to live that will accommodate a pitbull. He is more than friendly, completely housebroken and non-aggresive, even as he gets older. Any responsible pitbull owner knows how frustrating this can be, because of the way the breed is approached. Any help in an area or management company would be great! Any advice you can give would be appreciated...

You have a few options

1. Buy a house so you can have whatever pet you want as long as it is legal to own in the city of Portland.

2. Give the dog away (A pitbull is not ideal due to the reasons you just found. Once you have a house you can buy as many pitbulls as you want.)

3. Keep looking. Eventually someone who is desperate to rent will rent to you. The kind of landlord who will rent to someone with a pitbull is most likely overcharging or the house is in poor condition.

Pitbulls are illegal in alot of cities. Some insurance companies will not allow owners to rent to someone with a pitbull.

Good luck... its not just the bad rap or that landlords take a huge risk in renting to anyone with dogs but in some cases you can lose your ins coverage for a property if you rent to PitBull owners.. (I have heard this to be the case but I haven't seen it)

Actually many communities are limiting the amount of pets a person can have whether it be cats or dogs.. I think In Lewiston its 3 dogs.. and I know cats are not licensed but too many stories of some lady living with 30 cats ect and the health hazard it creates
