My girlfriend and I are moving to Portland from North Carolina. I just accepted the position, and my job starts Dec 2nd. We are obviously in a huge time constraint, and basically looking to find a place to rent short term(less than a year, ideally 3-6 months). I could spend a bunch of cash and fly up for a weekend, but we can also just take a risk on a place online. We have been all over craigslist looking for a house/apartment. Some are definitely promising, but I am seeing a bunch of listings for 4rentmaine.com. Has anyone used or know anything about this site? It charges a fee to join and search their database.

We are looking for a minimum 2 bedroom / 1 bath that allows cats. Thanks for any advice anyone can offer.

Watch out for the fake ad's on craigslist. They have a very low price, and often very small pictures. Lots of them are obvious in that they dont actually put a location. "MAINE, ME", etc.

Dont send any money without seeing the place inside, etc.

Aside from that, if your only requirements are 2/1 and allows cats. I don't think you will have a problem finding a place at all.

Thanks for your response. I had figured as much with the CL ads. We have spoken with several people and are hoping to have a place ironed out by the end of the week. We are anxious to get this part of the moving over with and we can start to work on getting all of our things packed and moved.
