To continue my other thread about Portland housing: Is the West End mostly crowded with college students? We are talking about only one university, so I would like to avoid area with many students....as I am older adult. I will be working at Maine Medical center and do not yet have a car.....probably better areas to live outside the city....but for now, need to be close to MMC or at least on a bus route if in east side of Portland......as the snow comes down and weather becomes freezing...

Thank you for any info.

The West End is a good mix of young professionals and families as it is a rather expensive part of town. You will find the majority of the students in the Oakdale and Riverton areas since they are closest to universities.

Living in Maine, a car is a must. The Metro Bus is too slow and not always reliable. Too many creepy people on the bus. Start saving for a used car, you will be happy especially during the harsh winter months....
