I am interested in the possibility of moving to Portland Maine. I heard there is a lot of black flies May through June, and in the summer months lots and lots of mosquitos? Since Portland is at the coastal region, would that be less ?
Thanks

I doubt you will find any black flies in the city of portland. And mosquitos won't be too bad if at all either. Bed bugs - different story.

Black flies? No. Those aren't really a problem till you get down into New Hampshire or Massachusetts.

Mosquitoes? Yep. Depending on the year, they're generally at their worst in June and July. By August they're still around, but not nearly as heavily.

Ticks are more of a problem in Maine. But not a serious health threat if you're careful. Just take the usual precautions and you're fine.

Bed bugs? Yep. If you're planning on renting, do a VERY CAREFUL search before you sign a lease. Even very conscientious landlords have a horrible time getting rid of them if tenants don't cooperate.
