We will be moving here mid-December and have a 2 year old and a newborn. Any suggestions for a good preschool for my two year old daughter who currently attends a 2x a week preschool and loves it? Also, any suggestions for a great pediatrician? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. We are also looking for a non-denominational Christian church.
Hi there - I have heard wonderful things about the preschool at Southern Maine Community College which is in South Portland but very close to Cape. Also there is the Cape Community Services care which people rave about.
Can't help you with pediatrician I'm afraid - and don't know of a nondemoninational as such, but St. Albans Episcopal in Cape is known to be quite welcoming and vibrant as a community, as well as the Allen Avenue Unitarian church in Portland which is very family friendly.
Sorry I'd like to help but I don't know anything about the preschools or the local churches. I've heard of ledgemere and Appletree school as being good, but this is second or third hand info. There is also World of wonders nursery school attached to Cape Elizabeth united Methodist church.
Oh and sorry I don't know of a good ped. But I know a good adult practice and a good dentist, two lights dental on sawyer in Cape Two Lights Dental (but not holly for cleaning unless you like it rough) and the Maine med partners in Cape, same location actually. My daughter, and a number of her friends use Dr. Margaret Zamboni as their pediatrician. She is at 100 Foden Rd, S. Portland. I have met her a number of times as well, since we help our daughter with childcare. Dr. Zamboni is a young mom herself and there have been no issues, either with breast feeding, introduction of solids, vaccines, accessibility and/or availability that have come up over the 4 years she has been the children's physician.

So good to know @ilovemycat! Thank you! Is your daughter in school-age? If so, how has your experience with the CE schools been?
Our daughter is in her 30's and we are involved with our grands - age 4 and 1 year. Our daughter lives in S. Portland, about a mile from us in Cape. My experience with CE schools is just from others- our neighbors had 2 girls in MS and HS and they moved here from another state about 4 years ago. Considering it is often difficult for kids to make friends at those ages, they had no issues. They integrated very quickly into the full range of activities, social life, academics, etc. I am sure you know the reputation of schools in CE, it is one of the main reasons people decide to move to this town. That being said, my daughter chose to buy her house in S.P. She did not want to live in such a wealthy community and S.P. is more economically diverse. But, each child is different, each family is different and any one child or one family can be successful or run into problems no matter where you live. By and large, children in any of these communities have a wonderful life.

I embarrassingly admit I originally misread your post about the pedi your daughter uses...for her children. When I reread it, I am dumbfounded as to how I even misunderstood it in the first place. My apologies. :/ The major reasons we are attracted to the CE area are definitely the highly-rated schools in combination with the proximity to the beaches, the airport, and Portland. Your comment about your daughter choosing to live in a more diverse area such as a South Port has me thinking though, as we currently live 30 minutes NW of downtown San Antonio, TX...a city full of diversity. I wonder if it would make for a smoother transition to Maine if our boys attend a school that they may be more accustom to. This is something else interesting and important to consider! Thanks again!!
If you want diversity, move to Portland. Lots of diversity there.
