We currently live in Texas and my husband may be getting a job in Portland (he's from Augusta). The Portland area is out of our price range to rent there. We have 2 kids and are looking for great public or charter schools. What areas would you suggest we look, within an hour of Portland?

Add South Portland as well. The schools don't have the rep of the towns above, but it is a great town and I think children would get a fine education there. My daughter, a teacher in Ptld and SIL ( a geologist) chose SP over Cape elizabeth, and our grandson will start K in the fall. The commute will be 5-15 minutes for your husband.
