I haven't been there as a customer, but I have seen assessments and the Maine Medical Center is the most advanced hospital in Maine, and I think it's pretty good. Maybe it's not Johns Hopkins or the Mayo Clinic, but realistically, few hospitals are at that level; I think the MMC is a good place.

Dartmouth Hitchcock in Lebanon, NH, and Maine Medical in Portland are the only level 1 trauma centers north of Boston.

How far is Dartmouth Hitchcock from Portland?

I am thinking of coming to Portland for the Surgical tech program, cooperative between Maine Medical and the community college. But to work at Dartmouth would be really great.

I have heard a lot of very good things about Maine Medical too.

It's too far to commute, if that is what you are asking. It is about 2.5 hours away.
