I may move to Portland (I've written here before, a few times). I've learned a good bit from all of you to get started, but there is one more thing...

Are there spots on a hill or that otherwise have a decent view where one could rent? A nice neighborhood without crime and/or drunk college kids, but also in the city. I'm from Pittsburgh, PA, so I'm very much addicted to hills and views out over hills--we have them in both the expensive and crack-shack varieties here. Hills everywhere.

Me, I'm looking for one bedroom place for single professional guy in mid-thirties. Anyway, an idea of a place with such a high spot (or general lack thereof) would be nice.

The eastern promenade has a gorgeous view of Casco bay. Beautiful, very expensive homes but some with apartments.

Yup, the Eastern Prom is going to have the best views hands down. There are a few decently priced rentals, but yeah, that stretch of road is mostly money. The eastern half of Munjoy Hill down the slope could be nice, although not quite sure of the view as you might end up just looking at the house next door.
