thanks. I can hardly wait to get there. Does anyone know anything about Biddeford. I saw some rentals there that were very reasonable plus my favorite store (Walmart) is located there. The story said it was about 20 minutes south of Portland.....

Bidderford and Saco are twin cities..but I think Saco is a much nicer community. I go to Saco a couple of times a week....it is a nice old community with charming old colonial victorian homes and a nice down town.... it also has lots of suburban development going on around it....convienient to Portland, to the beach, to the Maine mall and not to bad to get to Boston. I think it is a great community. Biddeford is an older milll town that is coming round after some hard economic times. It has a lot of old tenement neighborhoods...but also some nice older residential neighborhoods.....check it out!

thanks for the information. I love this site. I just discovered it last week. Each day I check back and I've read everything from everyone. I notice it's mostly the same people responding but it's so informative. I'm a big, big fan now!!

I've been reading about Houston moving to Eastport... It sounds like my dream place. I know I've been all over the map with where I want to land when I move to Maine but it's just me searching. Can I find a small studio or 1 bedroom in Eastport to rent? Since I'm now semi retired I don't have to worry about employment.

you are posting in the Portland sub forum....there are a lot of Eastport fans on the Maine forum... I am sure the answer to that question is yes. Eastport is at the other end of the state, right up near Canada....It is far enough away.....that the last time I was there was about 12 or 15 years+ ago and I don't expect to ever go there again. Search about Eastport on the search function and then ask your question on a relatively active thread. You will get lots of answers. Asking in the portland thread is like asking about Temecula or Hemet in San Fransisco.

Check out the local Portland paper website
www.Pressherald.com and check the classifieds.
Here's the links to the local news channel website
www.Wcsh6.com (NBC)
www.wmtw.com (ABC)
www.Wgme.com (CBS)

It's a good, safe place to live but not too much night life and the winters are loooong!
