World's best street food - CNN.com

Quote:
With more than 400 carts selling everything from Korean tacos to Carolina-style barbecue, Portland is a microcosm of mobile meals. Lunchtime crowds gather near SW 10th Avenue and SW Alder Street; later on, night owls head across the river to SE 12th Avenue and SE Hawthorne Boulevard for deep-fried cherry pies and savory crepes, served until 2 a.m.

Pretty Cool

I agree that it is good for Portland to get publicity, when the sun is out and the rains are being held at bay.

I love Portland street food and all, but the #1 is just completely delusional.
Any large city in Asia has a much bigger street food scene. I guess the writer was afraid to eat Bangkok street food so he/she gave them a lower score??
We do have a nice variety of food though.

I kinda have to agree I have not been to Bangkok but from what friends tell me, street food is good and watch out if you go to a actual restaurants in Bangkok because they like to jack up the bill to foreigners since most wont argue due to language barrier.

Oh yeah, sanitation is going to be the x-factor. In Hong Kong, that curried octopus may be the best in the world, but I'll be damned if I'm going to eat it out of the same bowl the guy in front of me did, while the cook dipped it in a bucket of dirty water and dried it with a towel from his back pocket.

But can you really call it street food unless it has a chance to kill you?

I agree that Portland should not be ranked as having the worlds best street food. But it does have very good street food, and so far the best I have found in America!
