When I was working in San Mateo, CA, this lady in line was so harassed by the lady behind her that she threw her fresh hot cup of coffee at her. People need to slow down and learn to relax.

I'm not aroseinrain, but since I use that term a lot, with derisive intent and knowledge of it's weight, I should probably clarify what I mean when I say it. When I refer to "lawn slaves" or "yard slaves" in the context of deriding yuppies (who make me want to vomit) I'm not using it to describe the career roles of the service workers as I see them (or as they see themselves). I'm explicitly referring to how the yuppies in question see them...and in that context the term with all of its ugliness is exactly what I mean to communicate.

I personally have a great deal of respect for people who actually landscape the yards and cook the meals and raise the children of the fanciest of gated subruban neighborhoods. I hope they take whatever money they can bleed off the soulless people who live there and put it to good use. More power to them. I reserve my spite and the vulgar words I use for describing the mindset of their employers.

Your right, if I don't like the program I should just change the channel instead of opening my big yap. I don't have an agenda, really.

I think the old woman in the library was one of the funniest parts on Portlandia so far.

Adult hide-and-seek league---I'm sure people are actually doing that for real in Portland at this point.

All in all, hilarious so far...Hopefully the next few episodes are just as funny.

Do you find it sickening that President Obama flew his wife to New York on Air Force 1 for a "date?"
I think it's pretty gross, personally, yes. I don't think liberal hypocrisy is any less obnoxious than conservative hypocrisy. I can't imagine why anyone would? Your response kind of confuses me though. Was anyone on this thread talking politics? I don't think being wasteful is necessarily a red/blue issue. I know plenty of fuel-conscious rednecks, hell, I probably qualify as one. Just because I like my biodiesel powered foreign car doesn't mean I don't know how to break it down and maintain it (or a firearm). Life isn't a game of checkers.

NO! The Speaker of the House has that privilege as part of the Job both for security and communications the Speaker is allowed on Military planes. Commercial planes don't do secure encryption phone calls. Also, commercial aircraft don't have cockpit secure communications with the Military network for fighter aircraft security patrol. Isn't the Speaker of the House 3rd in line in the POTUS line of succession?

The new House Speaker now has that Military jet transportation. I suppose you are sickened by that also??

Emphatically NO.
I was not sickened when Laura Bush used SAM 28000 or SAM 29000.

1st lady **must** travel by US Air Force special air mission services for Secret Service security. It don't mater who the 1st lady is, she must travel by USAF SAM transport. There are several planes in the fleet. I know you are aware that only when the POTUS himself is on board, the plane is given designation of Air Force 1. Otherwise, it is just USAF SAM-28000 or USAF SAM-29000 which are the tail numbers for the Special Air Mission Boeing aircraft used by the President. SAM has other planes for use by senior national cabinet level office holders, like Speaker of the House.

Commercial airlines and airports don't do complete security background checks for each and every passenger also on board. Nor is there security screening for every crew worker, maintenance tech, food service worker, ground crew, (including janitors) in the airport.

While they may be required to use military planes, there's nothing saying that they need to make as many trips as they do. Can't the First Lady be taken on a date in the DC area, must she be flown to New York? 2.1 million for 43 flights back and forth in only nine months? over 100K for "in-flight services?"

THAT is not necessary. That is abuse. As a denizen of Portlandia, it offends me.

I agree, that was my favorite skit also, and I think was the funniest. Also, although I like the show (interesting how the little ditty "the dream of the 90's is alive in Portland, Portland, Portland" stays with you), but I do think they could step up the comedy a bit. What I like best are the shots of Portland during the credits.

Yes, yes and yes. I don't condone any gluttony or hypocrisy whether it comes from the left or the right. Its just as insane to be riding a private jet preaching to reduce a carbon footprint. Isn't the object to actually do it yourself THEN preach?

So ya, I don't like gluttony on either side. This much I can say.
