Multnomah village is BORING and overpriced and WAY overhyped. But, if you like hanging inside your house (nobody walks over there) then check it out.

I love how all of the westside and non-natives fear the eastside. Sellwood, Woodstock, Eastmoreland, Laurelhurst, Hawthorne, and Belmont are great neighborhoods (Hawthorne and Belmont a little busy, though) and actually have a "cool vibe" to them with lots of small shops, parks, good schools, and very walkable areas. The westside makes me want to vomit. Traffic!!!!! Bad drivers!!!! Overpriced cookie cutter houses!!!!! It also feels very "fake" and "plastic" over there, but..... to each there own, right?

Well, I said in my other post eastside sounds just like what we are looking for. These neighborhoods your mentioning.. are they in the Portland city limits.. I've been looking for rental on the Oregonian, You think I should look in the SE and NE areas..

Those neighborhoods are all in SE Portland, except Laurelhurst, which is in NE. SE Portland is HUGE, though, and there is a grid system and trick to the addressing. Portland is done in 4 quadrants with the Willamette River and Burnside Street making up the dividers, NW, NE, SW, SE. Numbered streets start parallel with the Willamette River. Imagine the river as zero street and it goes 1, 2, 3, 4, etc on the east and west side. And as for Burnside Street, it is also zero and the addresses go in increments of 100. So, 1000 SE 32nd Ave would put you 10 blocks south of Burnside on 32nd Ave. Hope this makes sense.

I beg to differ about the foot/bike traffic at Mult.Village. - my mom lives there, I lived there for a few years, and theres always people out walking. Lots of folks walk down into Mult. Village to have breakfast/brunch during the weekends too, we always meet up w/several people each time we go. I was even part of a good size walking group there for awhile, we had several people and always met up w/others along the way. I also have always appriciated the courtasy of the drivers over there. Its an area that I dont worry so much about my kids being run over by some maniac while theyre out front.

Default just to set the record straight...

Californians also like the east side. You can see San Francisco and Berkeley parking permit stickers on cars all over the neighborhoods you mentioned.

"Walking club"? You actually have to join a club to go for a walk? I lived over there for a couple of years, and the only people I saw walking around were walking to or from their vehicle to a shop or restaurant. And when I would go for a ride on my bike, people would stare at me like "Where's your car, dude"? And I rarely saw other cyclists, unlike the eastside.

To each their own.....

lol - it was just a group of us who all liked to go out for morning walks, and we'd all get to yappin anyhow, so we decided to meet up and walk/talk at the same time. No fees, no paperwork, just people who enjoyed morning walks around the same area, same time, that became friends. - the really good days were the ones where we'd walk about, then down to FatCity to eat!! lol
