Anyone else see this segement Nightline did on PDX? Hopefully our city leaders start to finally address this problem and not ignore it like they have for years!

I like many others, didn't see the show and didn't realize that Portland had such a bad "PORN" problem.

Can you kinda "flesh out" what we are missing?

I didn't see it before, Daisy, but I watched the link. That's a horrible situation! I didn't know city leaders had been ignoring it, although Mayor Sam did tweet something very recently about the fact that something must be done. They've GOT to do a better job with this. I'm all for free speech, but there must be tighter controls on this industry.

And I also have to say that parents need to be more watchful of their teens; granted, single moms sometimes have a tough time with this, but you have to know where your children are and who they're with. The police force can't do it all.

ADDENDUM:

After checking into this a bit, I find that a lot IS being done, with regard to secure sheltering, sting operations, and Sen. Wyden introducing a bill to help combat the thugs perpetuating this. More about that here: http://www.oregonlive.com/portland/i...get_child.html

well that is good news. I just think PDX could be known for more than sex trafficking, Ron Jeremy's swingers club, prostitution and the most strip clubs per capita in the country

I'm not shocked that the teens are being exploited, considering how tolerant people seem to be of such negative lifestyles. The PNW is so odd.. I live in a very nice town up here, and lately there have been groups of street-kid wannabes in our Leave It To Beaver suburb. The kids have been smoking, hanging out for hours, lying on the path into the library blocking it for the elderly people, etc. Also they've been doing drugs in the parking lot, as well.

So I go into the library after walking through a cloud of smoke and ask them if they can't do something about them, because I'm tired of climbing over them every time I want to go to check out a book. They said "oh, we called the police a few times, and they just move out to the parking lot." And the funniest thing is that the people around in me in the library who heard me complain, all gave me the dirty looks and disapproving sounds for actually saying anything. So overly-permissive, and afraid to look intolerant.

Totally, 100% agree. Actually I agree with your entire post.

Most of PDX walks around with blinders on, the rot starts at the top.
I am absolutely sad beyond belief. The is such an under layer of crime. It is all about the streetcars for city hall.

Well.. what is the solution? More funding for police? Better economy to keep the problem from happening in the first place? Parents watching their kids better? Legalize it so that it's regulated (and taxed) ?
