I've always thought that the John's Landing area would be a friendly little neighborhood, though never lived there. There are houses, not just condos -- some duplexes and townhouses. So a decent variety. It's not large, so not as many choices, but the rents I've seen don't seem all that high-priced. And access to OHSU would be great.

Default OHSU area

Hi there. Don't know if you've made it to Portland yet, but here's a little info for you.

We live in John's Landing which is just below the OHSU/ VA hill. You can walk, take the bus or even the tram up to OHSU. No need to drive and park up there, plus there's a long wait list for parking. Our neighbors are both residents at OHSU and he bikes to campus/work.

There are lots of houses and apartments for rent and places to eat nearby that you can walk to. Zupan's grocery is nearby as well. The bus system in POrtland is excellent so you can't go wrong with looking in SW Portland, NW or close in NE/SE.

Portland is also a very creative, artsy city so you can't go wrong with neighborhoods. The suburbs are full of HOAs and cookie cutter homes, but come visit and check out the city.

My husband and I just moved to Portland for residency this past June. We purchased a home in a South East neighborhood (Laurelhurst) and he commutes to work via car. Traffic is never an issue because he goes to work so early in the morning. Although residents do have to pay for parking at OHSU, the cost is nominal and it is automatically taken out of their checks by HR.
