My husband and I would like to move to the Portland area in about two years. We would like to use a car minimally, and would like to depend upon public transportation as much as possible. We have visited Portland often, and enjoy the amenities of culture within the city, but would prefer to buy away from town due to housing expense in downtown Portland. We are interested in a 2-bedroom small home or detached condo with minimal yard. What Portland areas would be helpful in beginning our home search?

Smile Thank you for link to Orenco Station

Dear Bledsoe,
I have read the link you provided in regard to Orenco Station. This is exactly the type of living arrangements I was hoping to find. I will definitely check it out further as a possibility for the future. Your reply to my question is greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to answer my question.
Sincerely,
Happy Hedgehog

Orenco Station and that area are a great recommendation. In order to not rely on a car, you will need to rely on the light rail. Beaverton and Hillsboro have a lot of condo development, Gresham tends to have more small homes and apartments. North Portland also has more affordable homes on the relatively new yellow line as well as a variety of shops and amenities that the outer towns lack.
