just thought i'd take a minute to inform everyone of the dangerous old hidden cesspools in Portland. Some of them are in the government, but some are in the backyard. In fact there are many of them, and people are actually falling through the cracks and dying from them. all puns intended.

here's a local news story: City records show a buried cesspool where man died | KATU.com - Portland News, Sports, Traffic Weather and Breaking News - Portland, Oregon | News

Be sure and read the comments on the news story link, they're really enlightening. Especially about the city's responses. Typical.

any and all comments about corruption, Portland's porn paradise, and backyard cesspools, are welcome.

That is maybe the weirdest thing I've learned about Portland so far. If I'm ever lucky enough to be able to buy a house, I'll remember to check for cesspools!

So one man dying in a cesspool makes Portland a "city of cesspools"? Are these cesspools unique to Portland? No other city has them? While what happened is a tragedy - it's hardly an epidemic. And lumping it in with porn and corruption makes no sense. This is plain old fear mongering. Just calm down - will ya'?

Apparently there are MANY of the old covered and forgotten huge cesspools under people's backyards and the city isn't being very responsible about informing people. Some of them are even under NEWER houses and construction sites because people don't realize they are there from the old house that was once there before.
What, you can't read things and see the artful language? "Cesspool" is a metaphor for other types of pitfalls, and corruption; and people falling through the cracks is a reference to failures of the social safety net. duh.
Do i care if other cities have literal physical cesspools? that (the other cities' problems) just plain isn't the subject of this thread.
I hope to spare people from falling into any of it. what exactly are YOU doing here? covering up isn't going to be very helpful. Either you are just one of those monkeys with their hands over their eyes, or you work for the city....

and that is exactly why I started this thread! Safety first! A cover-up of the old cesspools (another pun intended) is just NOT a good thing, and could cost more lives.

It took six months for you to come up with this response?? Looking forward to your answer in August! Your heroic altruism is inspiring though.

if you have something pertinent and of some kind of actual value to add, rather than just a random evaluation of others posting, you will be welcome.
needless to say, i have other important things going on in my life, unlike apparently, certain others who seem to spend half their day here on a regular basis.

You know you've done a great job being humourous when you have to explain why what you said is funny. Great work sir.
