Hi everyone,

We are going to visit Portland in the next little while. We have never been before and don't know where to stay. Our trip will be mostly for shopping and some R&R.

Are there any mail order/redirection places that will sign for UPS and FedEx and charge a small fee to pick up the parcel?

Also, if anyone has any tips where to stay that's quiet and at a reasonable/fair price, that would be appreciated.

Thanks
S

Any of the UPS Shipping locations will hold packages. 99% of the time, so will your Hotel. I've never been charged for either service all across the US.

I hear a lot of good things about the Ace Hotel https://www.acehotel.com/portland/

The Jupiter is another one that's coming highly recommended quite often: The Jupiter Hotel | Boutique Hotel | Portland, Oregon, OR

Hotel Lucia is in the same category at those two; Portland Hotels | Hotel Lucia Portland

I like the Monaco Chain, I've stayed in the Seattle and SF versions. They tend to be pricier, but you can frequently get up to 50% off on Expedia. Downtown Portland, Oregon Hotel: Hotel Monaco Portland

hamellr, thanks for the reply. unfortunately UPS charges $5/day to hold the package and many companies will not forward packages to a hotel. if the courier driver sees the destination as a hotel, he will return the package back to depot because if he delivers to a hotel, he would be in breach of the contract between his company and the shipper.

in washington state for example, near the border towns they have many mail redirection services where you can have the parcel shipped to a particular address and then pay a small fee to pick up the parcel. I've been searching extensively and i have not found one place that doesnt charge an annual fee for a service that I am looking for.

thanks for the suggestions on hotels...i am surprised how little feedback my question has gotten.

You should be thankful that people who don't have good information don't post feedback. Bad feedback is worse than little feedback.

Best of luck to you.

Hahaha. With that kind of logic, i should be thankful that ANYONE replied. Nonetheless, you're right...especially if there's lots of trolls.

I am extremely surprised at this. I've been traveling for work all across the US since December. I've been in 25 Major cities, and stayed in more hotels then I can count. I ship several boxes via UPS to every single hotel I stay in, and quite frequently a couple more (larger) boxes to a local UPS store or depot. If it's going to the hotel I add "Guest HamellR arriving on xx/xx/11" to the ship to information.

If I ship to a UPS Store (or UPS Depot,) I put "Will Call - HamellR (Phone Number)" on the ship to address. The only shipping problem I've had in that entire time was the UPS Freight Depot in Irving Texas. They didn't want to give up my packages because I didn't have a truck to pick them up with.

I've never had a lost package, never been charged anything to simply pick up my package.
