Lol good responses BLev555. "and don't admit to people you own a car. Or a tv." : )

Though I'll mention I'm on 18th by Division and Hawthorne(west of 39th) in a 2 bedroom for $900. It's kind of like it's own house/miny house and it has a fireplace. I'm sure there are cheeper places in the area.. It's a great location.

I rather enjoyed those responses too, lol. No, it isn't a rental application, but it did sort of sound like it, didn't it? I mentioned the smoking because I have viewed several apartments that do not allow smoking at all, not even on the premises. So I didn't know if being a non-smoker might actually help me in certain areas? I'm grabbing at anything I can, here! Hah. A 2BR for 900 in a great location? That sounds really nice! I could probably do more than 800 a month but really don't want to my first 6-12 months in the city. I have to adjust my cost of living and I know it's going to be tough. Des Moines Cost of Living is considerably lower than Portland. Not going to be fun, but oh well!

Speaking of Cost of Living...
If any friend or relative offers you any bag of flour or sugar for your new home in Portland, and you have room for it, Take the Gift!!!!

Basic flour, sugar and such are dang high priced here in Portland. Also, if you have Kroger grocery store shoppers card, it will work here in Portland at our Fred Myers (local Kroger's by another name) Example: 5 lb bag of flour is on sale, with a coupon, for $1.99 a few days before Easter, 2011.

FYi, Tom Thumb and Safeway are the same way as I found out a couple of weeks ago in my travels. I didn't even pay attention to the name on the outside of the building and after entering would have sworn that I was in Safeway. I didn't know until after I had already swiped my Safeway card at the checkout and the cashier said "That's not going to work sir. Oh, wait I guess it did!"

This is the only place in Portland I could think of that would fit what you want. Rentals for studios begin at $300 but the website says there is a waiting list.

Anything funky in an historic ambience will cost and arm and a leg. Those are hot properies everyone wants. Another alternative would be to rent a room in someone's house. You can find those on Craig's List or Padmapper.

Stay in Alaska, and get a SHIFT KEY. Besides it would be a long drive to work everyday.

But seriously, I would say they may exist, but not likely to be found other than by word of mouth from people in the know. More like a Judge Judy share situation.

There are also units for sale there for only $84,000 with today's low interest rates the payments would not be high, although I am not sure how much the condo fees are there.
