Voodoo Donuts is the only one we have been to, but it was fun and weird and unique....seems to fit in with Portland's theme. They were good, and we liked them for the weirdness... awfully sweet, though. I don't even know of any other donut shops.... I would love to try some other ones if you guys know of more options!

The funny thing is that doughnuts are not all that popular here. Given the number of espresso stands and coffee shops, you'd think they would be. In other cities (even figure-conscious Los Angeles), there are doughnut shops in just about every retail plaza. Not so in Oregon.

Which brings up another thing that's different in Portland (the NW) - maple bars. The east seems to call them Long Johns.

I'd be hard pressed to name one Donut shop other then Voodoo Donuts or Krispy Kreme. Voodoo wins hands down as evidenced by the lines out the door at 2am on a Tuesday night.

Now if you ask about bakeries that's a different story. But Portland is not really a donut town especially compared to a lot of the cities I've visited in the South.

Don't even get me started on the darned donuts. I've been here a week and have been to seven different places looking for chocolate creamsticks. They don't exist. At least Roth's will split a chocolate bar in half for me and put whip cream in it (not the same, but close).

Besides the groceries stores (5 of them so far), the only two donut shops I've seen are one in Tualatin and Voodoo. ARGH.

I've never heard of chocolate creamsticks - not sure you'll find one here.

Apparently Google hasn't heard of them either. I keep finding Pocky-like products from Japan, but not much donut related.

But to me it sounds like an eclair. Those are easy to find at any bakery in town. Even Safeway sells them in packages of four in their desert stands.
