It doesn't necessarily mean that you should not live in Oregon. But, you should probably start learning about SAD and what treatments are available for it.

On the other hand, if you are looking for a reason to leave the best reason is your desire to do so....

I moved to Oregon last year and to me it wasn't as bad as people have told me it would be. I think a major part of it is having friends and getting out even on those rainy days..I used to live in Alabama where it is sunny and hot most of the year, there it was so hot that it was overwhelming to even get out. But you have to realize that when thinking about moving somewhere else in the US you have to consider the cultural difference. Alabama and Oregon are at opposite ends of the spectrum

Yes they are complete opposites. This is why its important to look into weather patterns wherever you move (or heed advice here!) especially if you think you may not like a lot of rain during the year

Hose, I'm in a similar boat as you. And even if a person researches the weather beforehand, even visits for a week during January, it's hard to know what the cumulative effect of lack of sun for months will be until you experience it.

Please. If you cant figure out a general pattern of Portland's weather by looking at a chart like this:
Portland, OR 97200 Month Weather Report - AccuWeather.com (http://www.accuweather.com/us/or/portland/97200/forecast-month.asp?mnyr=2-01-2010 - broken link)
then you cant really be too surprised. Welcome to Portland folks - it rains here

As several people told me, the first two PNW winters are rough for almost all newcomers. Just accept that, and stick them out. If subsequent winters are just as depressing for you, then you'll probably move away. I hated my first two winters, especially the 4:30 p.m. sunsets. The next couple weren't so bad. Then they became tolerable. Finally, I actually learned to like them. But this last winter/spring was the first one to bum me out in a long time. Now the sun is out, and all is forgiven.
