I am looking for a breakfast spot between Portland airport and Welches. We are flying in next Thursday in the AM and driving direct to Welches but was hoping to find a good breakfast spot somewhere in between. Of course there is always the chains but I was hoping for great food, interesting atmosphere, unique menu, but I will settle for great food. I am willing to go out of the way maybe by 5 miles or so if it is worth it.

You may have to go out of your way unfortunately.

Here is a list of good Breakfast stops; mostly in Portland itself. Search Results | An Exploration of Portland Oregon Food and Drink

The problem is that the Airport is on the East Side of Portland, West side of Gresham. Your local areas are Troutdale/Fairview, Gresham and industrial areas of Eastern Portland.

On the way up to Welches is Sandy and pretty much nothing else (at least from a breakfast standpoint.)

M&M in Gresham is decent. In Sandy there is The Crossing.

Not sure if they do breakfast*, but the Tollgate Inn in Sandy is absolutely delicious for dinner.

*Since they have a bakery attached, they probably do. Also - the bakery has some killer muffins! Mmm!

There's a place called Stephanie's Cafe & Catering in Sandy that looks good. The Blackberry Cafe in Welches sounds like it comes even higher recommended.

There is a place in zig zag we used to go to with my family when I was younger that had really good food. Last time I was there was over 10 years ago though. Can't remember the name but on google there is a place called the zig zag inn that looks like the same place I remember.
