Remember that you can drive onto the beach from Gearhardt north to Fort Stevens state park.
After the first mile or so it gets pretty boring because it all looks the same.
No tide pools, just flat sand with ocean on one side and dunes on the other.
You can find clam shells, sand dollars, crab shells, and see pelicans and seagulls etc.
But it's fun. You can park and seconds later be at the waters edge.

AND LISTEN TO NELL!
IF and WHEN YOU ARE ON THE BEACH, PLEASE KEEP YOUR CHILD WITHIN REACH AND PLEASE PLEASE NEVER LET YOUR KID OUT OF YOUR SIGHT.

It's always very, very sad when we read about a accidental drowning in the news.
For example, a kid will be standing on a log close to the surf line, a sneaker wave comes along, rolls the log, and it's all over.
It happens way more than you would think, too.

Quoting again because it needs to be said.

You should spend a day visiting Mt. Hood by going up to Timberline Lodge. Spectacular view of Cascades from there. Year-round summer skiing too if you are interested. Lots of tourist going up there to visit lodge and enjoying the views. You should visit Bend too if you can.
