As a regular visitor to Portland, I've been wanting to check out the East Bank Esplande but haven't been able to figure out how you access it. That area seems to have a maze of freeways and streets, and even consulting maps, google, etc. haven't a clue as to the best way to get there. If you drive, is there any parking in the area?

Parking is under the Morrison bridge.

You can access it from the Stark Bridge, the Morrison Bridge, Burnside Bridge, Hawthorn Bridge, or from the OMSI building.

drvie to east bank esplanade? The whole point of it is for walking and cycling!!!!
Seriously you can access it from the major bridges downtown, but again only on foot or bike. If you really have to drive you best options are:
Park under the Hawthorne bridge somewhere. Or park downtown and walk across the bridges. It can make for a nice downtown loop.

You can also get to it, if you want to start at the south end, from SE Caruthers, which dead-ends onto it just west of SE Water Ave.You are then also very near to the connection with the Springwater Corridor.

Thanks everybody- I wasn't sure if you could access it from walking over the bridges, but apparently that is the best way.

If you prefer, you can certainly access it from walking over the Burnside bridge, in fact that was how we found our way onto it our first time. We were just strolling along and were like "woah check out this staircase" about 3/4 of the way to the east end of the roadway (it's on the southern side of the bridge so make sure to cross on that side).

Have fun! It's a great place to stroll and to snap photos of the city, especially in this summer weather.
