Suprised that Skidmore Bluffs is well known enough to now be included in a New York Times travel article. When I first moved to North Portland, 6 years ago it was still kind of a secret neighborhood place to watch the sunset.

I saw this in response, and it seemed obligatory to paste it here:

While I appreciate the New York Times Travel section doing a flattering story on Portland (I’ve still got my ode to the “Ugly Beauty” that is Portland in draft form to be published here soon), I wish once — just once — somebody would write a story about Portland that didn’t gush about Powell’s Books, the Rose Garden, Saturday Market, and all the hoity-toity restaurants in the Pearl.

Powell's Books, Saturday Market and hoity-toity restaurants all need paying customers. If all they had was our cash they couldn't survive.

This is so funny. My good friend lived in North Portland in the house where she grew up for 51 years. She was not far from the Alibi Lounge. It used to have quite the reputation for rowdiness and good times and good food.

Karoke bar? Oh my gosh! How things have changed.
