Haha! I am sure you all get sick of seeing these. But, my searches did not satisfy my requirements.

Where is a good, safe, cheap place to live in or near Portland? Is it Vancouver? I am single professional and want to find a nice place and happening place to squat.

Thanks,

First of all, the term "cheap" is relative. I'm guessing you're a renter so you might want to be more specific as to that term. If you're a "single professional", you might want to live near downtown due to the night life there compared to other parts of Portland and the suburbs. As to Vancouver, it would depend somewhat on how you view your commute, that is, if you'll be working in Oregon.

If you want to consider Tigard, I have a friend who just put her townhouse up for rent. Let me know if you're interested and maybe I can contact you with the details. It's in a great neighborhood and has 3 bedrooms with 2 1/2 baths. It has a back porch that overlooks a greenspace with a stream and a paved walking path. Lots of trees, too. Oh yeah, it also has a garage.

If you haven't heard it before, it you work in Oregon live in Oregon. If you work in Washington live in Washington.

We nead a lot more information about where you will be working to provide useful info. What is 'cheap' depends on your POV.

Ok. Yes... that information helps. I would be working near Gresham... and I would consider $500 (cheap) - $1000 (not cheap) per month.

Thanks!

@ $500/month you're going to be in a pretty bad place. In the $800 range you'll be OK. Depending on where in/near Gresham you'll be working there are some suggestions.

Off of Eastman Parkway are some decent apartments. Along Powell is more. The bad areas are mostly along 181st and near the Max tracks on Burnside.

Expect to pay closer to $7 - 800 and upwards for a place that isnt a dump or in an unsafe neighborhood. And like PP said if you work in Vancouver live there, same with Portland.
