Hello,

I am moving to Portland from New York but I am stuck in an unfair endless loop where corporately owned apartment complexes (almost all of them it seems) require me to have a current job (for at least a year in some cases). However since I am moving from New York I obviously don't have a current job and while I am highly qualified and in contact with job recruiters and employers in the area I can't interview for jobs if I can't find an apartment in the city to live in. So now I find myself in an endless loop where I can't get approved for an apartment if I don't have a job and I can't find a job until I have an apartment...

I can show proof of income in excess of 2.5x the rent for an apartment going for $600 or less (1 bed or studio), I have decent credit history with no defaults, I have 3.5 years of employment history at the same employer here and 3 years of good rental history at my current residence. I meet EVERY requirement to pass these applications except my wages are not garnishable so I am being told it doesn't count and as far as they are concerned I have no income.

I am at a loss of what to do here I can't drive around looking for private owners renting apartments or have access to the local papers and the only apartments being listed online belong to corporate properties who have this unfair policy. Craigslist has the occasional place pop up but without being in the area I can't go check the place out to ensure it's not a scam. If anyone could please help me find something that will accept income that can't be garnished I would really appreciate it. I need to move ASAP (by the end of the month) and this is seriously becoming a MAJOR issue.

I moved from Florida & was easily approved for an apartment, without a job, at Monte Vista at Murrayhill, which is in Beaverton. They used to be called Country Gables when I moved in, so I am not sure if their policies are still the same. I also have fantastic credit so I am not sure if that had anything to do with it. But none the less, I was approved without having a job here.
