I've driven the entire 101 from Seattle to Frisco (2004) and I've crossed the continent east/west a couple times and north/south a few times. I've taken 26 in from the Coast, and 6 in from the coast... give me the interstate... please. 101 preferable to 5!!?? Snow is not the only bad thing out there. A driver who is that afraid of any precipitation should be as afraid of rain as they are of snow and there can be plenty of rain on 101. Plenty of curves and elevation changes. Someone (else) could roll their motorhome on top of you and ruin the entire rest of your life because they are overmatched. Everyone has the best chance for a good outcome on the interstate which is why they have them. 101 is for scenic road trips in the spring and summer and is not, was not, intended to be a weather alternative.

For christ's sake, stay away from 101 and on I-5. 1 is a difficult, winding and very empty road even in summer. I-5 isn't hard to drive on, and they'll plow if snows

It really does just depend on the weather conditions at the time. I make frequent trips down to California from Washington(5 and 97) and a lot of times snow isn't an issue whatsoever. I actually didn't even own chains until this week and I only got them because I need to replace my tires soon.

Does anyone know what I am talking about? Can this be avoided if we drive up the 1? Any other areas of concern going up the I5?

Thank you

You really should not come to Portland. It is miserable here, and nobody will help you.

SoCal is the best place for you to be. Wif your people.
