I'm sure that some Americans sometimes think that, but people who are ethnocentric (nationo-centric?) don't typically think that the world revolves around their nation -- rather, they don't care what the rest of the world does or thinks, as long as the rest of the world leaves them alone. I have no doubt that there are Canadians with that mind set, as well. (For the record, I love Canada.)

Portland easier to live for a person of "modest means." Hmmmm, well I am administrative assistant in a downtown tax firm and I made $12.50 an hour (with medical insurance, but no dental or vision). With my salary I can not afford even a studio apartment in Portland.

When looking for an apartment on Craig's List I am often looking at other locals as well. Was quite surprised to see Seattle with a comparable rental market.

Trimet, which charges $2.10 to $2.25 a bus ride is considering changing its system. No more fareless square, making your ticket a "one-way" ticket rather than valid for two hours of ride time. Thus forcing riders to buy two tickets to go to and from their destinations.....

Who would have thought that being a regular white collar office worker, I would be forced to apply for food stamps and seek income restricted living assistance.

Portland has lost its charm.
