Hello..
I am hoping for some advice... I currently live on the outskirts of Manhattan and looking to move west. I have family in the Portland area but have never been out there yet. I would like to find a place where we could get the most bang for my buck.. inexpensive rentals, a safe neighborhood and good school system. I enjoy a fast pace environment but welcome a calmer feel. We have been hit with some major snow storms so a milder winter is much needed I'm a single parent in the Admin field, I don't know the difference in wages compared to here and the job market. A lot I know.. if anyone has any suggestions.

As others will tell you, you should visit first before making a move. You might love it here, or you might hate it. My wife is an experienced executive admin and makes good money, but a lot of that depends on luck. Intel hires a lot of admins and pays pretty well, if you have the right background. Cost of living is much lower than in NYC. Few cities in the world can equal NYC for cultural diversity, world-class everything, and things to do, but Portland is more than good enough for me.

How much "buck" are you willing to spend for your "bang?" What kind of Admin experience do you have? A Job will be your number one priority.

"Inexpensive rentals, a safe neighborhood and good school system" are pretty much mutually exclusive. These could be had more in the suburbs than in the city of Portland.
