Hello,

I will be moving to Portland from upstate New York and was wondering which neighborhoods should I avoid when looking for an apartment? It doesn't need to be an upscale neighborhood I move to but I have a lot of high end electronics such as multiple large HD tvs (47" and 60"), 3 very high end computers with large monitors and other things that carrying into an apartment or having visible from a window in a bad neighborhood would be ill advised so I would like to avoid high poverty and low income neighborhoods where I would be more likely to get robbed having expensive belongings. I am open to living in Beaverton or Vancouver (actually I would prefer them over Portland) but I don't want to go further than that. I also don't want to live in or near downtown.

Rents may be a little lower in Tigard, which is (literally) across the street from Beaverton.
