Default This thread violates the TOS

I think the original poster's message and this entire thread should be deleted because it merely clutters up the forum and is in violation of the City-Data Terms of Service (TOS), which state among other things: No "I'm leaving" messages.

I'm sure the OP will find happiness in some of the great cities of the Bay Area like Vallejo or Antioch... Much nicer than Portland.

How about we just get a mod to trim the entire first post to:

"Goodbye, cruel Portland, I am leaving and you won't have me to kick around any more!"

which is pretty much the gist.

Then anyone else who feels sorely misled for moving here without any actual research and a huge pocketful of expectations can just add "Me, too!" posts.

Folks, I smell a troll. The OP is extremely similar in content and style to one that was posted by someone else about a year ago -- same hook about Portland being overrated, moving here after being lied to, not a single positive thing to say about Portland, assertions that the poster was going to move away and was thrilled to almost be out of here, etc. Maybe it was the same person, or maybe it wasn't, but I can't take seriously any post that's so overwhelmingly broad and negative. Atlanta wasn't a good fit for me, so I moved away, but I still have plenty of good things to say about Atlanta. I was going to respond to the OP point by point, but EnricoV said everything I'd planned to.

By the way, there's a fairly sizable population of Hawaiians in Portland, and a smaller community of other Pacific Islanders. My wife is Hawaiian, and one of my stepsons used to date a Micronesian, so I've been plugged into both communities. I couldn't tell you where there's a sizable Samoan community anywhere in the US, outside of perhaps Hawaii.

Just read an article about the upcoming season of Portlandia. One sketch was something about a bartender, excuse me ... mixologist who was going to commit the ultimate sin .... moving out of Portland.

It made me think of this thread and laugh.

Hard to say if he was trolling or sincere, but he certainly got the Portland apologistas baring their fangs!

It took him 3 months to figure out Portland isn't is as cool (or dry) as SF and the bay area? You get what you pay for. There's a reason why the Bay Area is one of the most desirable and expensive places to live in the country.

I don't think that three months is long enough to really judge a place. I think if the OP wasn't just being a troll, and I really don't believe he was, he should have given it a lot more time. It could be that he just was having a difficult time getting used to a very different city from the one in which he used to live.

Also, if he believed any prior "hype" than he was not being smart. You cannot get a true feel of a place from the Internet or newspaper or even City Data as to whether or not it is the place for you. The only way to determine that is to visit for as long as possible or move and give it at least a year.

BTW, the do the rules that state No "I'm leaving" messages mean that when I leave I can't say goodbye to the people I have come to know and like on this forum?
