There are also two or three other stores are losing their lease as well. I heard that the rent for the toy store was $3,600 a month. It's sad that the most reasonably priced toy store near downtown will no longer be open.

$3,600 a month? That seems really low for that location and the size of the store.

It does, and it also kind of confuses me that anyone would ever lament Toys R Us. Don't we all remember how they and other corporate chain toy stores colluded with manufacturers all throughout the 1980s to basically destroy the toy industry and turn everything children touch into a branded advertisement for something else? They're part of the reason "real" toys that are well made and encourage imagination are today seen as some expensive treat to be found (in the brick and mortar universe) only in specialty stores and museum gift shops.

Toys R Us can burn in flames as far as I'm concerned. They deserve about as many tears as Blockbuster or Tower Records.

I don't know anything about their history, but as someone without a car, I appreciated having a lower-priced toy store where I could take my toddler.

I had a friend who worked there briefly as an events planner. She did a good job but was done in by politics. They were a great company many, many years ago when they were under a different name. Now they are just monopoly mongering goons.

Good riddance, I say.

If anyone wants really cool toys that are well made go to either Kids at Heart on Hawthorne Blvd or Finneagan's on Washington downtown.

I love Finnegan's, but they are very expensive. We do go there, as well as Child's Play. I don't think you will find a lot of local stores at the mall, for what it's worth, but I gather that most of you aren't forced to spend most of your time hanging out at Momtopia at the mall.

I find it incredibly disturbing that, in a perpetually struggling area jobwise where businesses continue to close, that so many people on here would rejoice the loss of more jobs. Lordy, that's just sad, sick, and wrong.

Toys R Us has been financially challenged for years. I suspect that they were at the Lloyd Center for the holiday shopping season only.

That was also my understanding. I thought the OP was talking about seasonal openings only.

The store had been there since I moved here in September. From the conversation I had with the store supervisor, the store was not just for the holidays, and there may be no replacement jobs for the employees.
