I'm moving out of my one bedroom apartment downtown and temporarily placing all of my belongings in storage. Unfortunately I don't have any reliable friends in the area to help me move the larger, heavier items (couch, bed, dresser, etc) so I will have to hire someone to help. So my question is, is there a certain area of Portland where day laborers gather in search of work? When I lived in Salt Lake City there were parts of town where undocumented workers would gather and wait for any type of work opportunities. Is there anyplace like that here? I thought about going to Pioneer Square or Chinatown but part of me feels like many of those homeless are more interested in drugs/alcohol than work. Perhaps that's an incorrect assessment. All I know is it's crunch time and I'm getting desperate! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Did you try googling to find out about the day laborer center on MLK near I-84?

Would this be of help? I thought of this place because I have passed by in on occasion. I don't know about undocumented, though.

When members of my family have used that resource they always buy a hearty lunch for the workers. Many do not eat regularly.
