do you have to water your vegetable gardens or is the natural precipitation enough to sustain a garden?

Rain is rare in the summers, so you have to water.

Yes, in the summer I water my entire landscaped garden. There generally isn't enough rain in the summer to properly water. I have a drip system that I run every three days for an hour. It feeds the tomatoes, the rhodies, the azaleas, the cutting garden and all the rest of the vegetation. They would all die if not for the watering. In spite of the general perception that it rains all the time here, it really doesn't in the summer!

You can grow some cover crops and cold weather vegetables during the winter and you won't have to water those.
