If its making you squirm, it's working. I am a fan as of now. I will hunt down some episodes ("put a bird on it" was kinda weird but, I get it now). I could write material for this show. Lots of good yuk yuks to be found in Portland's quirks. Who knows, it might be the next wave of comedy anyway... Redneck has its own comedy genre, now nerdy green eclectic eccentric alternative non-conforming urban hipster politically correct socially conscious people can finally have a laugh at themselves!

It was a jab at a crafts fad awhile back, where old stuff would be repaired somewhat, washed, then would have some kind of craftsy logo slapped on it (and then sold for around 500% of what it was really worth...)

I makes fun of the very prevalent culture in Portland that almost anything can be art, and that all it takes for something to be a unique piece of hand-crafted, artisan art is to "put a bird on it". making fun of Portland's "kitsch" craft art scene.

You should watch the skit about "put a bird on it".

A while back? Have you been in some shops in Portland lately?

...but if you don't always refer to things as having been a passing fad, that would be like, admitting you're not an insider. Remember, by the time something makes it into Portlandia, by definition it's already OVER.

(tongue firmly planted in cheek folks, nobody get all twisted up)

Hehehe... fair call, but I seriously thought that trend had died off by now.

(/makes mental note to wait awhile longer before shopping the Alphabet District for new stuff...)

A few weeks ago, my girlfriend and I decided to go eat breakfast at a place on SE Clinton on a Saturday morning, and I remarked how Portlandia should parody the common Portland trend of people waiting for hours on a weekend morning to get into a popular breakfast joint--sitting in line with their coffee and usually getting in by after lunch time--just for some scrambles you could make at home. And lo and behold, apparently that was the theme of Portlandia's season finale.
